ASIAN AMERICAN CHRISTIANS CONDEMN CONSERVATIVE STATEMENT ON SOCIAL JUSTICE AND THE GOSPEL
September 7, 2018—Today, a diverse group of Asian American Christians from around the world condemn the “Statement of Social Justice and the Gospel (SJ&G),” released this past Tuesday by John MacArthur and co-signed by conservative Christians, responding with a counter statement, “The Statement on God’s Justice (SGJ).” SGJ not only refutes the SJ&G statement, but recognizes that there is an imperative to the Christian community to pursue social justice as a core tenant of Christian living. With the release of SGJ, these Christian leaders implore fellow Christians to join them by signing their statement and take a stand against MacArthur and the 3,000+ conservative Christians who have signed SJ&G.
The Statement on God’s Justice affirms the following items: 1) Biblical Errancy, 2) Anti-Imperialism, 3) Gender Equality, 4) Racial Equality, 5) Sexuality and 6) Gender Identity, and 7) Economic Equality, in addition to clearly refutes the MacArthur Statement on Social Justice and the Gospel.
“WE BELIEVE that the pursuit of social justice is essential to a life of faith in Jesus and is a present-day calling of the church.” —Excerpt from The Statement on God’s Justice: Preamble.
